EagleView Industries - The Equipment
Fixed Wing Aircraft
Prior to May 2000 the company relied solely on rental aircraft to conduct aerial photo operations. Nassour Aviation still provides quality rentals and instruction services. We purchased a 1968 model Cessna Cardinal 177 in late April 2000. The aircraft has been equipped with a special camera window and a photo port in the bottom of the fuselage. We probably would have continued to use rentals but Ed was reluctant to cut a hole in the bottom of a rental aircraft. Imagine that! The cardinal had previously been converted from the factory 150 horsepower engine to a 180 horsepower with a constant speed propeller. The cardinal has many attractive features but the most attractive for photography is that it has no wing struts to block the view from the camera. Many photographers have been very successful in other aircraft with wing struts, but not having struts just make the job easier for oblique photography.
Helicopter
Capabilities exist through other cooperative resources for helicopter services with gyro stabilized camera platforms when the photo mission or customer requires it. A special quotation is required when use of a helicopter is specified.
Cameras
We use both medium format and 35mm film cameras. The "big boy" is a Linhof Press 70 with Carl Zeiss lens and is capable of using 70mm and 220 film. We also use a Pentax 6x7 with 55mm, 105mm and 200mm lenses. Vertical photos are made using a Rollei 6x6 mounted in the bottom camera port. The Nikon 35mm is used when requested or for shoots where the product is known not to require enlargements greater than 8x10. We are experimenting with digital capability now and should be so equipped in the near future for clients requiring response that only digital equipment can provide. Other film and video equipment is leased for special projects.
